Special Education

The Special Education Department at Washington Junior High School is responsible for the education of the students with exceptional needs.  Washington Junior High School provides Individualized Education Plans (IEP) for the over 90 special education students in the building.

As a department, we are committed to providing the best quality education for the development of cognitive skills, self-awareness, self-esteem, physical well being, and social and decision-making skills.

It is our belief that a caring and positive environment is the best way to encourage successful interactions and experiences and can help drive students toward college and career readiness.

We recognize the importance of communication between the home, school, and community which is necessary to encourage the growth.  parental and community engagement is essential when determining placement and services provided.

As a department, we provide a wide spectrum of services targeting Specific Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, Emotional Behavior Disabilities, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and Speech and Language.  As a result, we are constantly updating and innovating the methods of instruction we use to meet the varied levels of disabilities and learning styles of all students.
